Being fit has become more important to people in the past 20 years but not so much for the health. There have been fitness and health programs since before the dawn of television, even the first diet low-cal soft drink came out in 1934. So calorie intake and fitness has been on our minds for a very long time but back in the day it was more for health than image. Since television, news media, sports events and movies came out, personal image started becoming very important.
